Synopsis

Naa Ashorkor, a bright 12-year-old, is pulled from school when her struggling parents decide to marry her off to a wealthy older man. Despite her pleas and her grandmother’s quiet protest, the wedding preparations begin. At the ceremony, as the suitor’s family lays out traditional gifts, Naa’s father recalls a haunting memory: his own father once sold him to fishermen, and only his mother’s sacrifice saved him. Faced with repeating history, he rejects the marriage items. To everyone’s surprise, the suitor laughs and agrees, pledging to fund Naa’s education instead. The film closes with Naa recounting her story to younger girls, inspiring them to believe in their right to education.
